TriPeaks Solitaire was invented in 1989 by software engineer Robert Hogue and has remained a player favorite ever since. The game got a boost in popularity when it appeared in Microsoft’s Windows Entertainment Pack. You can play TriPeaks here for free, in full screen, with unlimited undos and a scoring system based on time and cards cleared. It’s quick, smooth and rewarding, perfect for a break or a high-score chase.
How TriPeaks Solitaire Works
TriPeaks uses a layout of 28 cards arranged into three small peaks, which is where the name of the game comes from. Most cards in the peaks are face-down, except for the bottom row, which is face-up and ready to play. The rest of the cards go into a face-down stockpile. Your goal is to remove all the cards from the peaks by playing them onto the waste pile. You can only move one card at a time and it has to be one number higher or lower than the card that’s already on the waste pile.

Here’s a breakdown of what you see on the playing field (see Image 1):
- Tableau or Peaks (1): 28 cards arranged in three overlapping peaks. Only uncovered cards (not covered by others) can be played.
- Stockpile (2): When you run out of moves, draw the next card to reset your options.
- Waste Pile (3): This is where you place cards that can be played.

Let me show you an example: In Image 2 above, I have a 4 on the waste pile, so I can play either a 3 or a 5 from the tableau. Suit doesn’t matter, just go up or down by one. Aces connect to both Kings and 2s, so use that to your advantage.
TriPeaks is quick to learn but rewards good planning. Clearing cards reveals more options and smart moves can set off a long chain, letting you clear multiple cards in a row without touching the stockpile. The fewer moves you make and the faster you finish, the better your score.

Quick Tips and Strategies
Want to improve your game? These quick tips can help you clear the peaks more efficiently and boost your score with smarter moves.
- Go for long chains. Plan up-and-down sequences to clear multiple cards in one go.
- Clear all three peaks evenly. Avoid focusing on one side to prevent getting stuck.
- Choose the smarter match. If two cards work, always play the one that reveals another card.
- Don’t hold back. You only get one pass through the stock, so don’t save cards for later.
